The Mather Rangers will square off against the Farragut Admirals at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mather is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Mather's last matchup with Lake View could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Monday. The Rangers came up short against the Wildcats, falling 12-3. The Rangers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mather saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was David Goytia, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Devin Monzon also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Farragut got the win against Westinghouse on Monday by a conclusive 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Admirals, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Ben DeMateo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. DeMateo was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Farragut: the team is 9-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise.
In other batting news, Farragut got a massive performance out of Robert DeMateo, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Freddy Garcia was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs.
Farragut was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in six consecutive games.
Farragut is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mather, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mather has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Farragut struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Mather was able to grind out a solid victory over Farragut in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 8-3. Will the Rangers repeat their success, or do the Admirals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
