If the David Crockett Pioneers were riding high off their 80-60 takedown of the Tennessee Vikings last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. David Crockett fell to Cocke County 55-49. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points David Crockett has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, David Crockett saw an underclassman step up: Aaliyah Story dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. Story hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Laney Britton, who scored 12 points.
Cocke County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shakyra Reed, who scored 14 points along with five steals. Halle Kitchen was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven assists and three steals.
David Crockett's defeat dropped their record down to 21-4. As for Cocke County, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 22-7.
David Crockett will head out on the road to take on Tennessee at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tennessee knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully David Crockett likes a good challenge. As for Cocke County, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Jefferson County at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th. Cocke County is coming into the match with six straight victories at home, so Jefferson County is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
