The Brighton Cardinals were the 54-51 winner over the Southwind Jaguars when they last played one another back in December of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. Brighton took a hard 56-40 fall against Southwind on Tuesday. Brighton found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 18 to 6 on offense.
Despite the loss, Brighton had strong showings from Jayla Jones, who scored 15 points, and Destiny Pruitt, who scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds. Jones scored a full 37.5% of Brighton's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Southwind's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Camille Sanders, who scored 17 points along with 7 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Sanders has scored at least 25% of Southwind's points. Another player making a difference was TaShawn Hubbard, who scored 10 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
Brighton now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Southwind, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Brighton won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Forrest City at 11:00 a.m. on November 22nd. Forrest City will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line. As for Southwind, they will head out on the road to face off against Freedom Prep Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
