Martin has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Cigarroa Toros at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Martin slipped by Palmview 36-35. The win was all the more spectacular given Martin's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 769th, while Palmview is ranked 185th).
It was another big night for Kiara Gonzalez, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and seven steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Martin's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Priscilla Torres, who scored six points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Cigarroa earned a 57-49 victory over Roma on Tuesday.
Martin pushed their record up to 15-16 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of three points across that stretch. Cigarroa's record now sits at 15-13.
Martin came up short against Cigarroa in their previous meeting on January 2nd, falling 43-37. Can Martin avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
