The Mt. Vernon Wildcats and the Princeton Tigers will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Pike Central scored an imposing 58 points on Saturday, Mt. Vernon still came out on top. Mt. Vernon had just enough and edged the Chargers out 61-58. The win made it back-to-back wins for Mt. Vernon.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Nicot Burnett and Quade Morton. Burnett had a great game and scored 24 points along with six rebounds. Meanwhile, Morton did his best for the losing side, scoring 14 points.
Princeton was handed a three-point loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against the Vikings on Saturday. Princeton put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 54-34 victory.
Mt. Vernon is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. As for Princeton, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4.
Things could have been worse for Mt. Vernon, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 52-35 loss to the Tigers in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Mt. Vernon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
