Ralston hasn't had much luck against Hastings recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Rams will look to defend their home field against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Ralston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Ralston came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 11-3 to Platteview.
Cade Stix made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hastings). They blew past Central City/Centura 11-4 on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tigers needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Peyton Drake looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Hastings is 2-1 when Drake allows two or fewer hits, but 0-3 otherwise.
At the plate, Dom Montey and Trindyn Degodt did most of the damage at the plate: Montey got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Degodt went 2-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs Montey has posted since back in May of 2025. Ben Wibbels was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.
Hastings always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 2-4. As for Ralston, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.
Hastings' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Ralston has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .489. It's a different story for Hastings, though, as they've only averaged .349. Will they be able to contain Ralston's hitters?
Ralston couldn't quite finish off Hastings in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 and fell 12-10. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
