Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
West Phoenix suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They suffered a tough 56-30 defeat at the hands of Heritage Academy. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points West Phoenix has scored all season.
Meanwhile, after a string of 30 wins dating back to last season, Imagine Prep's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They were the victim of a tough 84-61 loss at the hands of Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Imagine Prep's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaylen Cassidy, who scored 22 points along with five assists and two steals, and Hayden Kelton who scored 18 points. Cassidy is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Richard Rodriguez, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
West Phoenix's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-7. As for Imagine Prep, their loss ended a 16-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-1.
West Phoenix was dealt a bruising 76-45 defeat at the hands of Imagine Prep when the teams last played back in November of 2023. Can West Phoenix avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
