The Perry Central Bulldogs will take on the West Marion Trojans at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Perry Central's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Tylertown as Perry Central made off with a 15-0 win.
Kenlynn Hinton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hinton was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Perry Central got a massive performance out of Aubrey Carter, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs Carter has posted since back in February. Journey Shows was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
Perry Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .724. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tylertown only posted an OBP of .364.
Meanwhile, West Marion put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Tylertown 15-0.
Like Perry Central, West Marion also got a great game from a two-way player: Izzy Pittman. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Pittman was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Gracie Odom was a standout: she scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Kady Stringer, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
West Marion's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Perry Central, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-6-1.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Perry Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .380. However, it's not like West Marion struggles in that department as they've averaged .492. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Perry Central suffered a grim 17-0 defeat to West Marion when the teams last played on March 7th. Can Perry Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
