The Piedmont Academy Cougars''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They lost to Gatewood at home by a decisive 36-18 margin. Piedmont Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Gatewood apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Although Piedmont Academy took the loss, they still got scores from Keith Hasker and Mason Tumlin.
Gatewood can attribute much of their success to Ames Johnson, who rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 93 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Jackson Hewatt, who gained 104 total yards and a touchdown.
Piedmont Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Gatewood, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
Piedmont Academy will head out on the road to face off against Lake Oconee Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lake Oconee Academy is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games. As for Gatewood, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Brentwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
