Football Recap: Bloomingdale Takes a Loss

Bloomingdale lost against Berkeley Prep back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Bulls took a 28-15 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Buccaneers. While losing is never fun, the Bulls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 285th, while the Buccaneers are ranked 90th).

Despite the loss, Bloomingdale still got an impressive performance from Preston Beckham, who rushed for 134 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 carries. Beckham's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 104 rushing yards. Sammy Zelaya helped out on the ground, rushing for 126 yards.

Berkeley Prep's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luby Jones Jr, who rushed for 136 yards and two TDs on only 15 carries. Those two rushing touchdowns gave Jones Jr a new career-high. Cooper Hayes was another key player, throwing for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.

This is the second loss in a row for Bloomingdale and nudges their season record down to 2-4. As for Berkeley Prep, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Bloomingdale will head out to face off against Durant at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Berkeley Prep, they will venture away from home to square off against Tampa Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Buccaneers will be up against the Crusaders' rather soft defense (which has allowed 30.57 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
