The Oakmont Vikings are taking a road trip to face off against the Bear River Bruins at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oakmont has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Oakmont blew Nevada Union out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Nevada Union got their revenge. The Vikings fell just short of the Miners by a score of 11-9. The Vikings' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Addison Turner was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Maria Gonzales was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, while Bear River put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Mira Loma. The Bruins blew past the Matadors 15-0. The Bruins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by eight runs or more this season.
Taryn Cleek was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Ella Northup was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lily Fiddyment, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Bear River is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Oakmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
Oakmont skirted past Bear River 3-2 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
