Mexia is 6-0 against Westwood since December of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Mexia Black Cats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Westwood Panthers at 6:30 p.m. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
After a string of three wins, Mexia's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. The match between Mexia and Franklin wasn't particularly close, with Mexia falling 54-38. The game was a 23-23 toss-up at halftime, but Mexia was outscored by Franklin in the second.
Meanwhile, Westwood's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 37-36 to Teague. While losing is never fun, Westwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1029th, while Teague is ranked 440th).
Mexia's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-11. As for Westwood, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-18 record this season.
Mexia skirted past Westwood 27-25 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Will Mexia repeat their success, or does Westwood have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
