Jordan Howard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Rex Turner, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 11 contests. Talan Stevens also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Fleming County was able to grind out a solid victory over Paris last Wednesday, taking the game 7-3. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Greyhounds recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Kaleb McIntyre tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits.
At the plate, Jett Martin was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Fleming County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 9-10 when he doesn't). Preston Cropper was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Montgomery County's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-9. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Fleming County, their record is now 12-10.
Everything went Montgomery County's way against Fleming County when the teams last played last Monday, as Montgomery County made off with a 12-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
