The Mullen Mustangs will head out to take on the Fossil Ridge SaberCats at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Mullen took their contest with ease, bagging a 41-6 win over Rangeview. While fans of the Mustangs might be used to big wins, the 35-point margin marked the team's biggest one yet.
Mullen's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Dante Dupuch, who rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns, and Koa Dietrich, who threw for 233 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes. Mullen is 2-1 when Dupuch posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 2-5 otherwise. Mason Bonner was another key player, picking up 95 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Fossil Ridge humbled Brighton with a 42-7 victory. With the SaberCats ahead 21-0 at the half, the match was all but over already.
It was another big night for Nick Kubat, who threw for 226 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 86 yards on only eight carries. Those 86 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marcus Mozer, who gained 70 total yards and two touchdowns.
