The Columbia Roughnecks will head out on the road to face off against the Bay City Blackcats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Tuesday, Columbia lost to Sweeny at home by a decisive 49-35 margin. Columbia has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Bay City suffered their biggest loss since November 30, 2023 on Tuesday. They suffered a tough 46-21 defeat at the hands of Iowa Colony. While losing is never fun, Bay City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 826th, while Iowa Colony is ranked 345th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Khylee Perry, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and two steals. That was a full 38.1% of Bay City's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alizia Gonzales, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Columbia has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-18 record this season. As for Bay City, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-15.
Columbia didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Bay City in their previous matchup on January 2nd, but they still walked away with a 42-37 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Columbia since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
