Basketball Recap: Estero Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Estero was the 53-34 winner over North Fort Myers when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Estero Wildcats fell to the North Fort Myers Red Knights 49-44. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Red Knights 16-12 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Estero lost on Tuesday, don't look at Amiya Lewis. Despite the final result, she went 12 for 23 on her way to 34 points and seven rebounds. The contest was Lewis' tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of London Woods, who posted five points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Estero smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in 17 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

North Fort Myers got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gia Molloy out in front who had eight points in addition to ten boards and seven steals. Molloy has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Amrey Stockeland, who put up 19 points and five rebounds.

Estero's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-3. As for North Fort Myers, they pushed their record up to 16-2 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Estero will venture away from home to challenge North Fort Myers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for North Fort Myers, they will head out to take on Gateway at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Fort Myers' defense has only allowed 26.7 points per game this season, so Gateway's offense will have their work cut out for them.
