The Fountain Central Mustangs will challenge the Covington Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fountain Central has three straight victories, Covington has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Saturday, Fountain Central got the win against North Vermillion by a conclusive 16-6. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by seven runs or more this season.

Uriah Wildman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Ayden Batchelor and Asher Davis did most of the damage at the plate: Batchelor went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI, while Davis went 3-for-4 with five runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Fountain Central is undefeated when Batchelor posts three or more hits, but 1-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ryan Mitchell, who earned two RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Fountain Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Covington fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Clinton Prairie on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Gophers by a score of 3-2.
Covington saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Creux Rieman, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Fountain Central's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Covington, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Fountain Central hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Covington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Fountain Central suffered a grim 15-5 defeat to Covington in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
