Polytechnic hasn't had much luck against Flintridge Sacred Heart recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Panthers will take on the Tologs at 3:30 p.m. Polytechnic has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Polytechnic came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 18-5 to Providence. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Panthers have suffered since March 7th.
Brynn Connolly made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Lorelai Thorell, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Flintridge Sacred Heart). Everything went their way against Immaculate Heart on April 1st as they made off with a 23-0 win. The victory was nothing new for the Tologs as they're now sitting on five straight.
Ava Nawrocki was a standout: she got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Gianna Candelora was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.
Flintridge Sacred Heart always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .818. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Flintridge Sacred Heart pushed their record up to 10-3-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Polytechnic, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Polytechnic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. However, it's not like Flintridge Sacred Heart struggles in that department as they've averaged .419. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Polytechnic came up short against Flintridge Sacred Heart in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 8-4. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
