Softball Recap: Deer Valley Snags 14th Victory in Last 17 Games

Deer Valley came out on top against Peoria on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run third inning. The Skyhawks put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 13-3 victory. Considering the Skyhawks have won 13 contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Deer Valley got a massive performance out of Leila Hermosillo, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Avyanah Seely, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Deer Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in ten consecutive matches.

Deer Valley is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Peoria, they are on a 41-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-19.

Looking ahead, Deer Valley will venture away from home to face off against Agua Fria at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Peoria, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 6-5 defeat against Westview on the 21st.
