Cambri Sumrall spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jersey Ancalade, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaida Jackson, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, West Marion made sure to put some runs up on the board against Picayune on Thursday. The Trojans blew past the Maroon Tide 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won nine contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
Izzy Pittman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Pittman was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Caydance Brumfield was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was McKenzie 'Bug' Stringer, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
West Marion has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Oak Grove, the win got them back to even at 10-10.
