Centura is 10-0 against Gibbon since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Centura Centurions will look to defend their home court against the Gibbon Buffaloes at 6:15 p.m. Hopefully Centura is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Gibbon in Nebraska (Centura is ranked 62nd, while Gibbon is ranked 257th).
In what's become a running theme this season, Centura gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Doniphan-Trumbull as Centura made off with a 46-26 victory. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 25-3.
Centura can attribute much of their success to Kyra Wooden, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds and five assists, and Kennedy Davis, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and four steals. Wooden has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Carlie Sokol was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Gibbon's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Blue Hill, falling 56-21. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Gibbon has suffered since December 12, 2023.
Carla Murillo-Corona was Gibbon's leading scorer, having posted seven points.
Claire Clark held things down on the boards with eight rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Centura's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Gibbon, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Centura have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 25.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Gibbon struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 22 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Centura against Gibbon when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 58-13 victory. With Centura ahead 37-7 at the half, the game was all but over already.
