After flying high against the Blair Bears last Saturday, the Bennington Badgers came back down to earth. Bennington took a hard 54-35 fall against Waverly on Tuesday. It was the first time this season that Bennington let down their fans at home.
Bennington's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Presley Baca, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Addison Reinoehl, who scored six points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Waverly to victory, but perhaps none more so than Peyton Tritz, who scored 15 points. Annie Harms was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Bennington's defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4. As for Waverly, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Bennington will head out on the road to take on Norris at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Norris presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Bennington in Nebraska (Norris is ranked fifth, while Bennington is ranked 38th). As for Waverly, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Wahoo at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Wahoo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Saturday.
