Even though the Central Bobcats have not done well against the Fairfax Stampede recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Central came out on top against the Stampede by a score of 64-54. For Central, this counts as revenge for the 56-49 loss the Stampede walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.
It was another big night for Lia Sims, who dropped a double-double on 43 points and 19 rebounds. That makes it 26 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Central's points. Another player making a difference was Shakeira Mosley, who scored 11 points.
Fairfax lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ajana Kenyatta, who scored 26 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Kenyatta is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Melanie Romero was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Central's victory bumped their record up to 11-15. As for Fairfax, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-11 record this season.
Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Fairfax and the Knights will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Metro Tech has now lost 14 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 5.
