Marion County extended the longest winning streak in 1A Region 5 this week by beating Pickens County, 45-27. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
Parrish made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,816 from 8,368. The improvement came about via a 44-31 victory over Lynn last week.
Marion County's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Sean Wallace threw for 86 and one touchdown and Dorryl Swanigan had 77 yards receiving. On the ground Justin Sanderson chipped in 136 yards. Sanderson helped Marion County's passing attack out by catching one ball for nine yards.
Russell Funk's team's Wallace and DeShawn Riebeshel have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Wallace has thrown for 736 yards this season, while Riebeshel has 11 catches for 329 yards. Jermichael Harris from the Tornadoes leads the league in rushing with 1009 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Berry takes on the Tornadoes. At the moment, the Wildcats are in third, while Pickens County is in second.
The Red Raiders led 1A Region 5 in scoring this week after putting up 45 points on James Tidwell's team. Wallace ran for 119 yards in the win.
