The Winside Wildcats were the 49-34 winner over the Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The matchup between the two teams wasn't particularly close, with Winside falling 41-26. Their loss continues a unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Despite the defeat, Winside saw an underclassman step up: Hadleigh Schutt dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Schutt hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast was led to victory by Avery Bacon and Sydney Olsen. Bacon scored 14 points along with seven rebounds, while Olsen scored six points along with five rebounds and three steals. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Tristen Parker, who scored six points along with ten rebounds.
Winside bumped their record down to 1-6 with that loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.0 points per game. As for Lyons-Decatur Northeast, their win bumped their record up to 2-5.
Coincidentally, Winside and Lyons-Decatur Northeast will both be playing Madison the next time they take the court. Lyons-Decatur Northeast will head out to face Madison at 6:00 p.m. on December 28th, while Winside will head out to face them on January 2, 2024.
