Softball Recap: Academy of the New Church Makes It Six in a Row on the Road

Academy of the New Church hadn't beaten Friends Select on the road since May 14, 2018 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Lions were the clear victors by a 16-5 margin over the Falcons. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won five contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Maddie Conlon was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Conlon was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Olivia Schriver was a standout: she scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was London Lynch, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Academy of the New Church kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive matchups.

Academy of the New Church's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.2 runs over those games. As for Friends Select, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Academy of the New Church will host Shipley at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Academy of the New Church is facing Shipley at the right time seeing as Shipley is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Friends Select, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Friends' Central at 4:00 p.m.
