The Coldwater Cavaliers are taking a road trip to square off against the Versailles Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Friday, Coldwater earned a 10-7 win over Spencerville. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Cavaliers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Harlow Heyne was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Lanna Zahn also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Coldwater kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Monday. Versailles put the hurt on Ansonia with a sharp 13-3 victory. 13 seems to be a good number for Versailles as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Madison Yagle spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ruthie Smith and Jalyn McEldowney did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base, while McEldowney went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Kayla Jay was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Versailles pushed their record up to 8-12 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Coldwater, their record is now 5-7.
Versailles' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Coldwater has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Versailles, though, as they've been averaging only 2.6 strikeouts. Will Coldwater keep running through batters, or will the Tigers buck the trend?
Coldwater got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 against Versailles by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cavaliers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
