Loudoun Valley hasn't had much luck against Woodgrove recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Loudoun Valley made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Battlefield, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Vikings blew past the Bobcats 12-5 on Wednesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Vikings as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
The team relied heavily on Harlie Reich, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Kayla Dunkerley was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Loudoun Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Battlefield only posted an OBP of .394.
Meanwhile, Woodgrove faced Riverside in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Wolverines were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over the Ram. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Danielle Plazyk was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Plazyk was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Woodgrove got a massive performance out of Faith Barker, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Barker has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Grace Anderson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and five RBI.
Loudoun Valley's record is now 2-5. As for Woodgrove, their record now sits at 7-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Loudoun Valley hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Woodgrove struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.3 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Loudoun Valley suffered a grim 17-1 defeat to Woodgrove in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
