The St. Mary Cathedral Snowbirds will head out on the road to challenge the Ellsworth Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, St. Mary Cathedral had just enough and edged the Ironmen out 36-33. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points St. Mary Cathedral has scored all year.
Meanwhile, Ellsworth waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They claimed a resounding 75-32 victory over North Michigan Christian Academy at home. Ellsworth's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
It was another big night for Patrick Puroll, who shot 4-for-6 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Evincio LaCount, who scored 18 points.
St. Mary Cathedral's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.8 points per game. As for Ellsworth, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.
St. Mary Cathedral strolled past the Lancers in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 by a score of 85-66. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Mary Cathedral since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
