III Section II recap October 22, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in III Section II this week, Sabino beat Cholla 56-10. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Sabercats.
Sabino took down the Chargers 56-10 last week, the largest margin of any game. Emilio Araiza threw for 196 yards and 4 touchdowns during the win.
Catalina's dynamic duo of Jeremiah Wilcoxen and Marquise Moore proved tough for Douglas to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Wilcoxen threw for 384 yards and 5 touchdowns and Moore had 194 yards receiving. Skyler Cleary helped Catalina's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 69 yards.
Zach Joseph was a beast in the backfield as Jay Campos' team beat Cholla.
He was 20-27 with 0 interceptions.
The Sabercats' Araiza and Matt Bushman led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback Araiza has thrown for 1,347 yards this season, while Bushman has 46 catches for 1,168 yards. Sean Fitzsimmons from Empire leads the league in rushing with 1,012 yards.
Sabino's Joseph is a mere 70 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 56 carries Joseph has put up 930 yards this year.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when the Sabercats and Douglas face off next week.
An important game coming up in III Section II this week will be when Sabino takes on Levi Salazar's team. At the moment, the Sabercats are in first, while the Bulldogs are in fourth.
The Trojans made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,837 from 11,573. The advance stemmed from a 50-20 victory over Douglas last week.
