The La Jolla Vikings's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Point Loma Pointers at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard on Friday.
La Jolla scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They came out on top against Clairemont by a score of 85-72. La Jolla pushed the score to 70-46 by the end of the third, a deficit Clairemont cut but never quite recovered from.
La Jolla can attribute much of their success to Lance Braga, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, and Michael Contreras, who scored 24 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Braga scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Vaz, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Point Loma's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell to Coronado 68-62. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Point Loma came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 349th, while Coronado is ranked 733rd).
La Jolla's win bumped their record up to 14-9. As for Point Loma, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-6.
La Jolla opened the new year with a less-than-successful 71-64 loss to Point Loma. Can La Jolla avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
