The Poly Parrots pushed their score all the way to 68 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Grant 73-68. It was the first time this season that Poly let down their fans at home.
Despite the loss, Poly still got an impressive performance from JD Wyatt, who went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 40 points and 1 assist. That was a full 58.8% of Poly's points, marking the 11th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Nathan Bravo, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
It was another big night for RONALD MERRILL, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 20 steals for Grant. The team also got some help courtesy of WILLIAM OVERTON, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Poly's loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-15. As for Grant, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.
Poly will head out on the road to challenge Chavez at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Grant, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Valencia at 6:00 p.m. on January 27th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Valencia is ranked 231st, while Grant is ranked 239th).
