It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Buena Colts can now relate to. They were dealt a 58-14 defeat at the hands of Desert Edge on Thursday. Buena was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 51-6.
Nash Moore threw for 191 yards and a touchdown. Simon-peter Johnson was his top target, picking up 74 receiving yards. On the ground, Andres Bonilla rushed for 34 yards.
Desert Edge was led to victory by Markhi Mckinnon and Hezekiah Millender. Mckinnon rushed for 102 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries, while Millender threw for 258 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes. Jaqua Anderson did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 112 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Buena to a paltry 230 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Desert Edge's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out four times before it was all said and done. Deshawn Warner was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
This is the second loss in a row for Buena and nudges their season record down to 7-4. As for Desert Edge, they have yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 9-2 record.
Buena does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Desert Edge will look to defend their home field on November 17th against Notre Dame Prep at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Notre Dame Prep is ranked 27th, while Desert Edge is ranked 15th).
