After a string of 28 wins dating back to last season, the Pender Pendragons's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 62-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Guardian Angels Central Catholic. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Several Pendragons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Avery Wegner, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya Dolliver, who scored 15 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Pender's loss ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 20-1. As for Guardian Angels Central Catholic, they pushed their record up to 14-1 with that win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pender will square off against Homer at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Homer focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 last Monday. As for Guardian Angels Central Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against Pierce on Thursday. Pierce will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 61st, while Guardian Angels Central Catholic is ranked ninth).
