Chancellor hasn't had much luck against Monacan recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Chancellor Chargers will take on the Monacan Chiefs at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Chancellor is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 44-23 margin over Courtland. The win continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won seven in a row.

It was another big night for Lydia Brockelbank, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 15 boards. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Natalie Lanning, who went 5-for-9 on her way to 13 points in addition to eight assists and five steals.
Chancellor was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They are 17-3 when they've passed the ball that well.
Meanwhile, Monacan won against Mechanicsville on Tuesday with 71 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. Monacan beat Mechanicsville by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 71-22. Given the Chiefs' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th in Virginia, while the Mustangs are ranked 230th in Virginia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Chancellor better keep an eye on Trinity Jones. She was instrumental in Monacan's win, dropping a double-double with 22 points and 14 boards. Jones has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Lila Donnelly was another key player, putting up 19 points and seven assists.
Monacan is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.6 points over those games. Chancellor's record now sits at 18-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Chancellor has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 33.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Monacan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Chancellor was taken down by Monacan 90-53 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Chancellor avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
