The Liberty Charter Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Bayfront Charter Sharks at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Liberty Charter is coming into the match hot, having won their last eight games.
Liberty Charter's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Bonsall as they made off with a 12-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Leah Urias made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kaiya McKay was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Makenna Jackson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Liberty Charter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in five consecutive matches.
Bayfront Charter came out on top against Chula Vista Learning Community Charter on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Sharks had just enough and edged out the Cobras 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Sharks have posted against the Cobras since May 2, 2018.
Like Liberty Charter, Bayfront Charter also got a great game from a two-way player: Daniela Figueroa. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. Figueroa was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabriella Loera, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Liberty Charter pushed their record up to 9-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bayfront Charter, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-15 record this season.
Liberty Charter beat Bayfront Charter 7-2 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
