New Castle is 1-9 against Yorktown since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Trojans will challenge the Tigers at 5:30 p.m.
New Castle is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Friday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Knightstown.
Sydney Dobbs put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.
Dobbs wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa Burris, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Yorktown came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Arabians by a score of 9-6.
Olivia Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on 13 hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Abbey Booher was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Reynolds, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Yorktown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.
Yorktown's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for New Castle, they now have a losing record of 10-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. New Castle has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Yorktown struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
New Castle might still be hurting after the 13-3 defeat they got from Yorktown in their previous meeting on Saturday. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
