Clover Hill has gone 8-2 against James River Midlothian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Cavaliers will square off against the Rapids at 6:00 p.m. Clover Hill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Clover Hill is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Powhatan just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 4-3.
Clover Hill saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Hayes, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for James River Midlothian, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 19-1 margin over Richmond High School for the Arts on Tuesday. The match marked the Rapids' most dominant victory of the season.
Sam Stallard and Georgia Swenck were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Stallard struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Swenck struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Those six strikeouts gave Stallard a new career-high. At the plate, Stallard went 3-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double, while Swenck got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Hailey Metacarpa was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Livi DeLyser, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
James River Midlothian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .778. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
James River Midlothian moved to 3-14 with that win, which also ended their seven-game losing streak. As for Clover Hill, their loss dropped their record down to 12-5.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Clover Hill hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .424. However, it's not like James River Midlothian struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Clover Hill skirted past James River Midlothian 7-6 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cavaliers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
