The Wyoming Area Warriors will head out to take on the Crestwood Comets at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Wyoming Area is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
While Wyoming Area's win against Honesdale wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Warriors had just enough and edged out the Hornets 2-0. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Wyoming Area's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Robbie Yatsko, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Crestwood waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They beat the Bulldogs by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 12-2.
Chris Litchkofski tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Dylan Domzalski was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Crestwood's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 7-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Wagaman, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Crestwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.
Crestwood pushed their record up to 12-9 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Wyoming Area, their record is now 12-9.
Wyoming Area's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's match. The Warriors have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Crestwood, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Wyoming Area continue to outrun the ball?
Wyoming Area couldn't quite get it done against Crestwood when the teams last played back in March as they fell 8-3. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
