The Hampton Hawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight defeat. They fell 38-28 to College View Academy. Hampton was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Hampton still got an impressive performance from Nevaeh Lukassen, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. That was a full 64.3% of Hampton's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Gavin Gilmore was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Hampton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. This was only their tenth loss (out of 12 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Hampton has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-15 record this season. As for College View Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 6-8.
Hampton will head out on the road to challenge the Longhorns at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Dorchester's favor as the squad sits on eight straight wins at home while the Hawks have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. College View Academy will take on the Cowboys at TBD on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Boys Town is ranked 277th, while the Eagles are ranked 254th).
