It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Canyon View Falcons had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against Grantsville by a score of 21-13. The win made it back-to-back wins for Canyon View.
Canyon View's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaxon Jensen led the charge by throwing for 178 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Deegan Davies, who picked up 157 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Despite the loss, Grantsville still got an impressive performance from Jayden Atkinson, who rushed for 217 yards and a touchdown while picking up 12.1 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown. Atkinson's longest rush was for an incredible 82 yards.
Canyon View pushed their record up to 9-3 with that win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-9 North Sanpete and 2-9 Carbon (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 41.9% over those games). As for Grantsville, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-6.
Canyon View will head out on the road to face off against Richfield at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Richfield is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Grantsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
