Basketball Recap: Southeastern Christian Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Uzziah Marlowe and Ziyon Smith

Southeastern Christian Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 57-48 defeat to the Cape Fear Academy Hurricanes.

Southeastern Christian Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ziyon Smith, who went 8 for 11 on his way to 19 points and eight rebounds, and Uzziah Marlowe, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 20 points. Smith is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played.

Cape Fear Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaiah Gibson, who posted 12 points and eight rebounds. That's the most boards Gibson has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kareem Anderson, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 13 points.

Southeastern Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Cape Fear Academy, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southeastern Christian Academy will head out to square off against Conway Christian at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Southeastern Christian Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.9 points per game this season. As for Cape Fear Academy, they will venture away from home to face off against Wayne Country Day at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Wayne Country Day's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 12 matches.
