Peyton has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Fowler Grizzlies at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Peyton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Thursday.
Last Thursday, Peyton came up short against Salida and fell 60-49.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Michael Perry, who scored 16 points along with seven assists and three steals. Another player making a difference was Ayden Breese, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Peyton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Fowler entered their tilt with Rocky Ford with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Fowler blew past Rocky Ford 60-28 on the road. Fowler's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
It was another big night for Gage Gottbehuet, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Harrison Proctor was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven assists and six rebounds.
Peyton's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Fowler, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Peyton have been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 43.2% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Fowler struggles in that department as they've made 40.4% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Peyton was able to grind out a solid victory over Fowler when the teams last played back in January of 2023, winning 69-62. The rematch might be a little tougher for Peyton since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
