Glenbrook South is 0-3 against Mundelein since May of 2017 but things could change on Friday. The Titans will welcome the Mustangs at 4:45 p.m.
Glenbrook South is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Stevenson. The matchup marked the Titans' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Glenbrook South got a good showing from Cam Lewis, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
On the hitting side, Trey Ryno made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Evan Bonnell also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, while Mundelein put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Cary-Grove. The Mustangs came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 5-0.
Mundelein also got a great performance from Joey Kafka as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Kafka has posted since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Nick Szalony was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Mundelein's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Glenbrook South, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Glenbrook South has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mundelein struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Glenbrook South suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Mundelein in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Titans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
