The Sun Valley Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight defeat. They fell just short of Cuthbertson by a score of 59-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tyra Robinson, who scored 15 points along with seven assists and two steals. Robinson continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoe Bradley, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Sun Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cuthbertson only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Cuthbertson got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Christian Johnson out in front who scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. Christian Mundy was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds.
Sun Valley's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Cuthbertson, their victory bumped their record up to 6-13.
Sun Valley will be playing at home against the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cuthbertson will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Marvin Ridge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Cavaliers in North Carolina (the Mavericks are ranked 25th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 241st).
