Purnell Swett and Gray's Creek are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. Purnell Swett will face off against Gray's Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Wednesday, Purnell Swett got the win against Seventy-First by a conclusive 22-1. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won four matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Braci Woods made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base.

In other batting news, Kara Hunt was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Lanna Haggans was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Meanwhile, Gray's Creek waltzed into their game on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They never let the Bucks get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory.
Not much got past Hannah Welsh, who gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks to keep Hoke County off the board. Welsh has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Gray's Creek saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Amber Miller, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Miller is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
The win made it two in a row for Purnell Swett and bumps their season record up to 5-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games. As for Gray's Creek, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1.
Purnell Swett suffered a grim 14-2 defeat to Gray's Creek when the teams last played on March 4th. Can Purnell Swett avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
