Shaun Fernandez was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That double was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Emma Medina was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kayla Diaz, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Archbishop McCarthy waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over the Bulls.
Like Florida Christian, Archbishop McCarthy also got a great game from a two-way player: Sienna Garcia. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Garcia has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Archbishop McCarthy got a massive performance out of Lydia Springer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Alexis Nightingale was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one double.
Archbishop McCarthy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .588. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Archbishop McCarthy pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Florida Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 13-6.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Florida Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Archbishop McCarthy struggles in that department as they've averaged .345. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Florida Christian might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Archbishop McCarthy in their previous matchup back in February of 2020.
