Christopher McCauley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. McCauley was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Minisink Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-5 when he doesn't).
McCauley wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nik Marrero, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Washingtonville got the win against Warwick on Friday by a conclusive 17-9. The Wizards might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by eight runs or more this season.
Like Minisink Valley, Washingtonville also got a great game from a two-way player: Bryce Tesseyman. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Tesseyman has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Washingtonville got a massive performance out of Andrew Dempsey, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. What's more, Dempsey posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Omar Puello, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Washingtonville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Washingtonville's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Minisink Valley, their record now sits at 4-6.
Minisink Valley couldn't quite get it done against Washingtonville in their previous meeting back in April as they fell 15-11. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
