1A Region 5 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Berry was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to fifth in 1A Region 5. The Wildcats vanquished Parrish 28-14 earlier in the week.
Pickens County extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Brilliant, 46-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Tornadoes.
Marion County's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Sean Wallace threw for 61 and one touchdown and DeShawn Riebeshel had 47 yards receiving. On the ground Riebeshel chipped in 125 yards. Dorryl Swanigan helped Marion County's passing attack out by catching one ball for 14 yards.
The Red Raiders' Wallace and Riebeshel have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Wallace has thrown for 406 yards this season, while Riebeshel has eight catches for 208 yards. The Tornadoes' Jermichael Harris leads the league in rushing yards with 433.
A big matchup in 1A Region 5 this week will be when South Lamar takes on Hubbertville. The Stallions are in eighth place, while the Lions are in fourth place.
Berry moved up to 210 from 268 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 28-14 win over Parrish helped Danny Raines's team improve its standing.
