The Wellsboro Hornets will challenge the Canton Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wellsboro is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
Wellsboro's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Wyalusing Valley as they made off with an 18-0 win. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.
Maxwell Mascho made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Syler Pietrzyk looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Cameron Owlett, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season. Coen Tennis was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Wellsboro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wyalusing Valley only posted an OBP of .286.
Meanwhile, Canton had just enough and edged out Bucktail 3-2 on Tuesday.
Canton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lee Tubach, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Canton's victory bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Wellsboro, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.
Canton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wellsboro hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .352. It's a different story for Canton, though, as they've only averaged .233. Will they be able to contain Wellsboro's hitters?
Wellsboro got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in May of 2025 against Canton by a conclusive 18-5 score. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
